GoZen devlog #0: the AI is too strong, and that’s my problem
Right now, the AI opponent in GoZen is too strong for beginners. That’s an odd thing to admit in the first post of a devlog. But it says…
Board first. Feed never.
A calm Go app. Local play, a guided path, and short tsumego. No rankings, no chat, no account wall before the first stone.
Local play. Guided path. One puzzle at a time.
No account on day one. Play, learn, and solve puzzles on the device. The core stays usable without a day-one paywall. Later plans may exist to sustain the project.
Most Go apps lead with rankings, chats, and walls. GoZen keeps the session local: the grid in front, optional noise left out.
Lessons and puzzles you can finish before the kettle boils. Quiet study, not streak theatre.
Local games on your device. Open the goban, place stones, and play that session offline, close to the wood.
Short lessons that stay on the grid, with just enough words for the shape in front of you. Progress feels like reading, not clearing a checklist.
Life-and-death and capture problems you can finish in a spare moment. Sharpen reading without asking for an hour you do not have.
Kaya warmth, matte stones, thin grid lines. A digital board that respects how you already sit down to play, not a dashboard dressed as a game.
Three screens from the pre-release Android build.
Play offline on the device goban. Local stones. No account before the first move.
